The Net Link Convention Initial Proposal
Sega Saturn Net Link owners have become sort of a community over the last year, through IRC, web chats, web pages, and mailing lists. Many friends have been made, and with the advent of modem gaming, new alliances were born. There have been several organized modem-gaming tournaments, which have achieved some popularity.

Now Paul Acevedo (Neo Eastman) and Leo Daniels (LeoRules) are taking the Net Link community one step further with the first ever Net Linkers Bash (tentative title). Set to take place in Houston, Texas on December 28th and 29th, this will be the largest gathering of Sega Net Linkers ever. A convention hall will be reserved and all Net Link owners are invited to attend. Not only are Texas residents expected, but people from all over the country have expressed interest in going. Scheduled attendees can even be found in Alaska and Hawaii. Many will fly to Houston, and many more will drive through our carpool organization efforts, bent on getting every possible Net Linker to the convention.

Acevedo and Daniels plan on providing a number of activities for all who come. This includes an organized Saturn Bomberman tournament (the largest of its kind in the US) as well as smaller tournaments for other popular Saturn games like Sega Rally and Virtual On. Arrangements will be made to provide game machines from local arcades during the 2-evening gathering, and food is planned on being dispensed free of charge. The only cost to visitors will be the $15 admit fee (to be paid in advance), used to cover expenses incurred by the convention. However, the guests will be responsible for their own lodgings, with assistance in finding rooms from Acevedo if necessary. The aim is to make the gathering as accessible and enjoyable as possible.

Once all interested parties have been confirmed, Acevedo and Daniels will make final selection of location within Houston, and the time of day for the event. The step they must now take is to achieve sponsorship from Sega of America and other related groups and receive media coverage as well. It is hoped that prizes will be donated, along with any possible promotional goods, and perhaps even guest speakers from within Sega and other companies. With a little outside help, these 2 Net Linkers hope to achieve a fascinating, fun experience for all.
