Adding sizzle to the company's newly announced SparQ one gigabyte removable cartridge hard drive, SyQuest (NASDAQ:SYQT) will now include three dynamic new SegaSoft game titles plus software for the multi-player HEAT Internet Game Network on every starter cartridge included with SparQ drives.
The compact SparQ Starter cartridge includes full versions of three HEAT-exclusive games: -- NetFighter is the first hand-to-hand combat game designed for Internet play. -- DeathDrome pits up to eight condemned prisoners to gladiatorial battle aboard high-powered futuristic motorcycles. -- Alien Race is a feverishly-paced action/strategy game for three teams of up to 10 players each. Also on the SparQ Starter cartridge is a free three-month introductory HEAT premium network membership to SegaSoft's HEAT.NET Internet Game Network. On the HEAT network, SparQ users have unlimited access to live-action tournaments, special events and multi-player games like NetFighter and DeathDrome, which pit them against players from around the country in real-time action. "We realize that the SparQ product needs to have mass appeal, so we focused on identifying dynamic software that fits in with what people are using the product for," said Gary Marks, executive vice president of marketing for SyQuest. "One very popular SparQ application is playing today's graphically robust games." Says Sean Ryan, vice president of business development for SegaSoft, "Gamers are often forced to remove games from their hard drive due to a lack of space. SparQ and HEAT are ideal partners as SparQ gives gamers the unlimited hard drive space they need at an excellent value." HEAT.NET offers gamers the largest selection of popular PC games as well as community-building features including personal Web pages, e-mail, chat rooms and an electronic store. Also included on the SparQ Starter cartridge is a modified version of the Heat Multi-Player Internet Game Network Start-Up Kit which includes demo versions of Scud: Industrial Evolution from SegaSoft; Blood from GT Interactive; Comanche 3 from NovaLogic; Interstate 76 from Activision; Lords of the Realm II from Sierra On-Line and Uprising from 3DO. SparQ is available through national retail chains, including Best Buy, CompUSA, Computer City, Egghead, Fry's and Micro Center and as well as through VARs, commercial distributors and mail order outlets.
