SegaSoft Networks Inc. is bombing the holiday season with two HEAT Internet Game Network (www.heat.net) promotions, including special events for team and individual players.
The two HEAT online promotions include Da Bomb Quake Tournament and 20 Days of December. Prizes range from a high-performance gaming PC to the supreme honor and glory of having one's clan logo incorporated into an upcoming Quake mod. "HEAT is all about creating community and rewarding players for playing their favorite games," said Sarah Mason, HEAT general manager. "Da Bomb and the 20 Days of December promotions are the latest examples of our total commitment to our players. With more than 100,000 members, whether you play solo or as part of a team, HEAT is the place to be. HEAT gives everyone a chance to win -- it easy to play, easy to win and there is no cost to enter." Quake clans are invited to check out Da Bomb, a new HEAT-exclusive Quake mod available as a free download on HEAT, and compete in a bloody team tournament for the glory and honor of their clan. All clans who play Da Bomb during December can register to have their logo included in the HEAT clan ring on HEAT.NET. Clan members will also receive free HEAT T-shirts customized with their clan logo. SegaSoft will host a Da Bomb clan tournament, beginning in mid-December. The winning clan will have its logo incorporated into a future level of SegaSoft's Quake mod and will receive $2,000. Also, each winning clan member will receive 25,000 Degrees, HEAT frequent-player points that are redeemable for free games and discounts in the HEAT store or that can be used to enter other high-stakes tournaments. "Da Bomb is everything its name implies," said Rich Pearson, brand manager of HEAT. With its eleven levels, exotic weapons and unique power-ups, it's no place for the timid or the squeamish. It's flat-out, balls-to-the-wall Quake carnage played team-style exclusively on HEAT." In a reverse capture the flag scenario, teams must infiltrate an opponents' base, plant a bomb and run like hell. A suicide option enables an individual player to detonate the bomb and make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater glory of the clan. And just to complicate matters, the bombs have countdown timers -- hold them too long and you're history. Da Bomb supports up to four teams at once depending on the level. Unique power-ups and weapons, including an electronics kit (E-Kit), which enable players to defuse bombs and commandeer automatic defenses to fire upon opponents. Other features include: -- Eleven totally new levels including ...Novosibirisk Submarine Base, Tereshkova Orbital Space Station and Loud Mouth Canyon. -- Breakable objects, automated gun turrets and aliases to speed console commands. -- Unique weapons and artifacts, including rocket boots and Molotov cocktails. -- Extensive game stats are persistent between levels and track frags, deaths, saves, and bomb possession time to each player, team and game. -- Customizable colors enable players to wear their own colors in addition to team colors. -- Gender specific identities for all players. In a separate "20 Days of December" promotion, HEAT members (both free and paying) who log in and play any game on HEAT for a total of 20 out of the 31 days in December are automatically entered into the sweepstakes drawing. Valued at approximately $6,000, the grand prize package includes a high-performance gaming PC and one year of ISDN service. The winner will be chosen by random drawing on Jan. 5, 1998. Clans and individual players will find complete information on Da Bomb and the 20 Days in December at www.heat.net .
