The destruction of the console industry and WD

I had once believed that the internet would provide an arena for intelligent discussion, that the video game world could finally enjoy a more adult following than the immature magazines on the newsrack. Alas, the first thing I see when I browse through Usenet or the web is always something along the lines of "my system is better" or "I'm boycotting so-and-so because they won't develop for my favorite company". This struck me as more than slightly childish and frankly, it disgusts me.

First of all, what is wrong with you people? Companies like Nintendo, Sony, and Sega are not your friends. Their businesses, out to make money. If I actually believed that any of the people writing this nonsense had ever had a job, I wouldn't feel the necessity to explain this. They couldn't care less about the games that they publish as long as they're making money. When I hear people say that they are angry at square for leaving Nintendo or that they won't ever buy a product from Working Designs again because they signed on with Sony and "abandoned" Sega - oh, those poor guys - I want to puke. Square and WD are also businesses. They continue to make the games that we love to play, but they must also serve their own interests. If they don't make money, they don't make games. It's as simple as that. Furthermore, it shouldn't matter to you in the least what console they develop for. You all act like you're major stockholders in the company because you purchased their product. Get real.

Well, I don't really feel that this is going to help anything, but I had to let this out. Who do you think you are to tell WD what their business is? It shouldn't make any difference to you, as long as they still keep making games. Remember when this used to be about FUN? If you're mature you'll just buy the games that you like, disregarding who makes them, and get a life.
