Control Pad
Review by: Andrew Hernandez
DESIGN:
It's nothing fancy, but it's one of my favorite controllers out there. I
like the way it's got a shiny surface with the awesome "Sega Saturn" logo
in between the D-pad and the action buttons. Also, the big Shift buttons
make it appear more sophisticated. Appealing to the eye. --8.8
CONTROLLABILITY:
This controller's got the best D-pad, period. Instead of being four small,
separate buttons with no place for diagonal movement (PlayStation), or a
big, uncomfortable, blocky + sign (Nintendo 64), It's this really cool
thumbpad, with a hollow place in the middle to put your thumb, and have
perfect control over anything you play. The button layout is the same as
the many other six button controllers Sega has made. Compared to the Analog
controller's, the shift buttons are harder to reach, and tend to be too
loose. --9.5
ERGONOMICS:
The best ergonomics in any standard controller too! This controller was
meant for the serious game player (unlike the 3DO's). From the time you
pick it up when you first get it, it becomes your gaming pal. On the back,
it is completely molded to fit your hands perfectly. On the front it is as
well. Another good thing is the size of it, it's neither too big like the
N64's, or too small, like the PSX's. It is meant for the average sized
gamer, which sounds like the the right size to me. --10.0
COMPATIBILITY:
This controller works with all Saturn games. I tried this controller on
every game I've played, and I gotta tell you, it's (Excluding the Analog
pad) the best. --10.0
SPECIAL FUNCTIONS:
None, besides the fact that it's the first Sega controller to have Shift
buttons. --7.9
OVERALL:
I can't say this is a must buy since you probably already have it, but if
you're going to buy a Sega Saturn, you'll probably getting one of the best
controllers ever engineered. If you have a choice between this one and the
Japanese style one, I recommend you get the Japanese one, since it's so
much more comfortable. --8.0
