Andretti Racing
MARIO COMES TO THE SATURN. Well Mario Andretti anyway. So your getting sick of the tracks on Daytonna and Sega Rally. Your looking for a good racing game with a season mode, or how about two different type of cars. Well Andretti Racing is here for the Sega Saturn. Sporting 16 different tracks with indy and stock cars to choose from. And for something extra EA Sports has thrown in James Brown doing the studio commentary. Bob Jenkins and Derrick Daly are also here doing the track side commentary. Graphics: 8 This game gives Daytonna CCE a run for its money in this category. There is some pop up and up close things look grainy, but not bad enough to notice as you are racing along. The backgrounds are visually stunning. And with real companies advertising to be found everywhere it adds to the realism. On the negative side the crashes could have been better. The game sort of pauses before you see the crash. Control: 9 As soon as you press right you go right. The games control is Awesome. My only complaint to EA Sports on the control is that, this game should have used the analog controller, if it would have, it would have easily gotten a 10 here Sound: 7 The music is nothing great and at times takes away from the excitement, but EA sports was nice enough allow us to turn the music off.. With the music turned off all the tire screeching and engine revving that makes racing great is here. One other dislike I have with the sound is the lack of voice clips. During the average race you will only here 4 or 5 clips. More of a lap by lap commentary would have been better. Lastability: 9 Two Player mode is here which makes the game fun with a friend, But your probably asking what about that season mode. Well there are 10 tracks per circuit, with either indy or stock car to choose from. Four of the tracks overlap from circuit to circuit, but 6 are only available with stock car and 6 are only available with indy cars. During season mode you start with the slowest and worst car. At the conclusion of a season if you have done well enough you are offered a better car. This gives you the incentive to race season after season. There is also a season summary which keeps track of your current season standings, how many seasons you have raced, championships and races you've won, along with few other little basic things. Fun Factor 8 This is a racing game at it's best, two player head to head is fun and season mode is great. Having to qualify and to pit during race, makes this a strategy racer, rather then a arcade racer like Daytonna or Sega rally. The only parts I dislike is the lack of a Nascar or Indycar licensing. Also the game has a set number of laps for each race in season mode. Unfortunately you can not change this.
