Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean
Review by: Ivan Ying
Graphics:
Graphically, this game is fantastic. Someone mentioned in a earlier review
that it is not as good as Chrono Trigger or FF3. The graphics are
definitely better then FF3 and I like them more then Chrono Trigger. In
this game you will witness, beautiful 2D artwork. The towns look fantastic,
each with its own individual feature. If anything, this game is TOO
detailed. I often found myself clicking on tables with books on them to see
if I could read the book, or maybe get that item on the table. The
characters are nicely drawn and have many poses and facial expressions. The
airship is also pretty well drawn, I really like the view. The battle
scenes were well done, better then any 16 bit RPG, but not quite amazing. I
thought Gravity Bomb was pretty cool. Every other battle scene were just
okay. This game has beautiful art, perhaps the best of any RPG ever
released. It definitely compares to Wild Arms graphically. I give it a 9/10.
Music/Sound:
I have to say this game excels here too. I love the music in this game, I
like it so much I want to get the soundtrack. All the music is appropriate
for the situation and it is also very well done. I especially love the
overhead map music. The sound effects include many laughing sounds from the
characters and a couple full fledged lines. Does anyone else out there love
"Let's get down to business Swordmaster!"? I give this 8/10 too.
Storyline:
Pretty good. Effective with pretty good plot twists, I like the Chapter 1,
Chapter 2 thing. Some of the events were pretty out of the blue eg. Pike
and Eka!! I only found 2 sub-quests and apparently there are three, anyone
know the third one? E-mail me! This game is also very funny, as expected. A
good change from all those serious RPGs. Nothing special here though.
Storyline get's a 7.5/10.
Gameplay:
Not the greatest. The load time before and after the battles are okay, but
the load time from the items, equipping etc... screen is just plain bad!
Sometimes you wish you could run somehow, but unfortunately you can't.
Battles occur too frequently, and there aren't enough types of enemies. As
I said said earlier, load times before and after battles are tolerable, I
think you'll find them okay. I also didn't like the fact that you had to
press start to get the items, equipment etc... menu. Gameplay gets 6/10.
Overall:
This game is very good. It's kinda short, it took me maybe 15 hours. I
would play through it again. The instruction manual is beautiful as always.
The ending is very disappointing, at least to me. Shining the Holy ARk was
great, and so was this. I'm glad I still have my Saturn and with Lunar and
MKR coming out, I think I'm going to have it a little bit longer.
This GAME gets a 17/20.
