Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean

Review by: Kaiser Farooque

I've been waiting for this game for three months, constantly checking the stores to see if they had it yet. I finally got it after what seems like forever, but it was worth the wait. Anyway, to the point, the best thing about this game is probably the music, with graphics close behind. The story was short once you realized how far through the game you are. I liked the humor especially, I've always been into WD's jokes. I'll explain more about this in the ratings.

Graphics: 85%
I loved the character animations, when I first played the game the night that I bought it, I was surprised to see that it seemed like they had sprite movements for everything. I was disappointed to see that there weren't any anime sequences though, except the one in the beginning, which was mainly voice, & I'll get into that later.

Music: 95%
Before I played the game, I listened to the music off the CD tracks. It got me even more interested in it. When I was in the Harpy Village in the beginning, I was just walking around, listening to the music play until it was stuck in my head The music is also played by REAL instruments (check the credits). But it wasn't as addictive as the music in games such as Lunar2, then again, what is? It also didn't help me FEEL the emotion portrayed (like in some Animes at certain moments, some people react just to the music).

Sound FX: 90%
Well, I have to say that I would like to hear more voice in the game, other than the intros or Chapter 2's beginning. The other voice & SFX were good though. I like the little screams as the enemies died & as the party cast spells. also I liked some of the other small bits they put in, like Lulu's "Take care swordsmaster!" The end didn't even have any outtakes like in WD's other games, but the FX were good overall.

Interaction: 85%
The combat system was easy to understand, but sometimes got you confused on who was casting what on whom, but that happened rareky to me. The best part was the when you made a choice between two options, it didn't do anything to the plot, it just made the game more funny (like when you first meet Krishna, you can say either "Your the one we saw in the cave!" or "Welcome Indiana Jane!").

Replay value: 87% (until Lunar: DC or Rayearth is out, then 70%)
I've heard about 3 sub-quests, E-mail me if you know what this is talking about, I've played the game twice through & haven't found anything (I play at night & got a couple of new Animes which I watched instead of playing it). It's fairly easy to get through again, but the last maze can give you a headache. If you're in Fargasta, don't get any help from the WD website, it's much more satisfying if you play it through yourself, although it gave me a headache.

Difficulty: 84% (certain parts brought it down)
It's a fairly straightforward game, except that one time you have to go to the carnival in Chestoria. It's still easy through the entire game, except for Fargasta, the Sea Creature, and the Palm O' Doom.

Overall: 89%
This game is great for any RPG or WD fan (main reason I bought it) or anyone who just likes RPGs. The ending was disappointing though, but the game was fairly well done. The best thing that WD could've done would be to add more talking, but I know they were busy with MKRE & Lunar DC, which I don't blame them for. Just play the game & you'll know what I'm talking about, and E-mail me at sirkizyr@aol.com if you know what the sub-quests are.
