Bubble Bobble

Review by: Raymond Yeung

First the downers:

1. Poor quality of openning sequences (Acclaim logo, openning movie, as compared to the Playstation version). These are the people who give the Saturn a bad name.

2. Poor in game sound - a bit more BASS is not going to hurt anybody. The worst thing is that the melody in Rainbow Islands (ie "Somewhere, over the rainbow...etc" is strangely missing (same for the PSX version).

3. Poor presentation - there is no way you can save your hi-scores nor the options; you can't even configure the keys. How very thoughtful...

4. The stupid oversized box and the crap box art...(plain for all to see)

Now the uppers:

1. Good use of colours - the games look almost identical to the original. However, the Saturn version of RI Enhanced does not have translucent rainbows as found in the PSX version - which is a shame (on the programmers).

2. The Pommy (ie British) mags say that the games have aged badly. I must disagree - they have more gameplay than most games. While BB feels a little bit shallow, RI is excellent fun.

3. Good controls - I had a lot of trouble in the arcades with RI, but the home version is actually controllable! What a relief...

4. Excellent value - only $33! ($42 for me as I have to pay a fair bit of postage getting it sent to Hong Kong).

To summarise:

Presentation - 4 out of 10
Graphics - 7 out of 10
Audio - 5 out of 10
Playability - 9 out of 10
Lastability - 8 out of 10
Value - 8 out of 10
