Bug!

Review by: VideoGod

With every system that is released there must be a good platform game released with it. The success of the game will take the system with it. Every Nintendo system has had a Mario, the Genesis eventually had Sonic and the Playstation has Crash. Well at the time of the Saturn's launch there was Bug. Bug didn't go over well and neither did that Saturn at first. Everyone was disappointed because the lead character is a bug instead of a hedgehog. But when you give this game a closer look what you will find is a very addicting two and a half dimension game that will challenge you for weeks on end.

Graphics: 8 This is A classic example of what they call a two and a half dimension game. The game has a linear path like a side scroller but you can also go back and forth into the screen like a 3D game. The graphics themselves are simple, colorful and you can see a long ways into the distance. Bug is cute and the backgrounds are very well done for a early Saturn game. On the negative side there is some pop up in the game.

Control: 7 OK, Bug himself moves slow and with no speed running button in the game it can seem like forever to get through one level. Like I said this isn't a Sonic game. On the positive the game uses a simple 3 button configuration with jump, attack, and duck.

Sound: 8 Bug's voice overs are great, With such frases at "don't hurt me" and "allacahoon" you'll be trying to imitate him for a month. As far as the music that's not so memorable, and what causes the sound to get a 8.

Lastability: 9 Fair warning to all the more inexperienced gamers out there. This game is hard The overall challenge of the game to begin with is not easy and the system for continues makes the game harder. The continues are set up so after you finish the first three stages you are given 3 credits (27 lives) to finish the next three levels. If you don't do it you must do the three levels before over again. So in other words don't expect to clear this game in a couple of hours.

Funfactor: 8 This game is a blast to play and to watch. the simple and colorful graphics are pleasant to look at, and the difference between the levels keeps you wondering what will be next. The bonus levels are a nice addition in the age when everyone is starting to forget what they are. There is even one bonus level witch gives you the opportunity to race against Sonic the Hedgehog. Unfortunately for most people the extreme difficulty might take a little away from the fun of the game.

OVERALL: 8.0 Ok the slow movement in the game is forgivable but it is difficult. And I'll be the first to admit that this isn't Sonic, but in a way that is ok. The game is fun and can be found for about twenty bucks at most stores. For anyone who likes sides scrollers or 3-d platformers you should already own this game. If you don't really like them buy this game and you will change your mind. Bug is a great game and is one of the Saturns most under appreciated games.
