Burning Rangers
To tell you the truth, at first I thought this game sounded so pathetic. Whats so exciting about fighting fires? Well, believe me, this game is much more than firefighting. The beginning animation isn't wonderful, and they did translate the word, "split" wrong, (Sense a Spilit Second.) but it was really cool. I found it very easy and quick the first time, but it changes each time you play! Every time you play, the location of victims, switches, and crystals change, which can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. Also, the voice navigation system is very cool. Well, now I'll do a #/10 type of review. Graphics: 8/10 The graphics are very detailed, featuring all of that texchure-mapping stuff, but the break up occurs almost all the time and the animation is a bit slow. Just remember, this doesn't deteriorate from the action one bit. One thing that looks great is light-sourcing: In the first level, the power shuts off for a little while. The Burning Ranger's "headlights" will turn on, and everything looks so cool! It is like they used real flashlights to make this part! Another good feature of light sourcing is danger limit. Each time you get 20% danger, (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%) a series of explosions blow out of the ground wherever you are. First, the ground lights up with bright orange sourcing, then a big fat flame blasts out, lighting up the screen. Another great thing is that the bosses are great to look at. They are really detailed and will send a chill up your spine. The graphics, basically, are great/perfect. Sound: 7.5/10 First, I'll tell the good parts of this. The entire game uses voices! It features no annoying text or anything, its all just talking! I guess that can be bad if you need to mute the TV, but it is otherwise great! The music isn't great, but is a bit fun, and the rap song is great, which is strange since I hate rap! One thing that relieved me is that they didn't feature little girls as the singers, as opposed to NiGHTS when you beat it without straight A's. And the songs aren't cheap lyrics that were just used because they rhyme like in Sonic R.There is rarely ever music during the game, but when there is, you'll know why. Control: 8.5 The control is very loose. Very. At first, that sounds bad, but it isn't. All the controls are very simple, for crying out lou, to baout of a wall explosion, all you do is tap Down on the controller. Flying is fun, but just so you know, this isn't like REAL flight. It's just that, if you tap Up+Jumpjet at the write time, you can glide a little while until you run into something. Another thing that seems it would be bad is auto jump. Simply put, if you run too fast off a ledge, you will jump off. This is actually a two sided thing. When you WANT to fall off, its a pain in the butt, but it also helps you concentrate on more important things. If you need to reach another ledge, run from 100% danger explosions, and shoot flames in front of you, you DO NOT have time to worry about the jump button. This makes the game easier. Now for the bad things. Swimming is irritating. It is just hard to control under water. That's it. FunFactor: 9/10 This game is just so fun! All the music problems, pop-ups, clipping, auto- jumps, animation trouble, and other problems are so irrelevant in this game! The first time through, it seems really short, and it's like, "That's it!?!" but then you play it again and it is even more fun then the first. Plus, you can save secret characters that are really people that made the game! Once, I rescued a certain man named Yuji Naka in the space station. Afterward, you can recieve "E-Mail" from them, and they'll tell you a password. So far, I know how to play as Lead (or Reed), Iria (the alien girl), and recieve the Sound test. I am still searching for secret dudes, even though I beat the game a long time ago. Might I add that a few victims are crazy! Once, I was playing as Shou Amabane and I found a women. This is what they said: Shou: Are you okay? Lady: After being rescued by a sexy hunk like you? Of course! You usually findthat sort of thing funny. Also, I was playing as Tillis, and through radio contact, I could hear: Shou: Are you okay... hey, get off of me! Reed, help! Reed: Are you blushing? That was funny, which shows that this game can lighten up. Overall: 8.something/10 This game rocks. I recommend that you get this game, definitely. It is really fun, and thats all that matters. I don't know if this game is any better in the Import title, but the Domestic is great! Go out there and buy it for all it's worth!!!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, only 5,000 copies were released in the USA, so if you didn't put it on hold at EB or somewher else, you probably can't get the Domestic version. The End (Aren't you glad now!)
