Decathlete

Review by: Cesar Cristobal

In Decathlete, one or two players can choose from one of several characters to participate in a Decathlon. This game features beautiful graphics and inexhaustively fun gameplay.

The magnificent graphics and smooth animation are probably Decathlete's strongest point. The stadium is rendered nicely, and lighting changes in each event. The characters are all animated gracefully and with a touch of personality, from the massive russian thrower to the petite chinese runner. Unfortunately, the game never displays more than two of the characters on the screen at once, which means either having only two people on the track or racing with poorly animated drones(1500 meter race).

The music in Decathlete is so typically Olympic that it can almost be considered cheesy, but does not play in the middle of events. The voices are clean and adequately acted, and the sound effects are accurate.

While some events in Decathlete require typical button pressing, others require timing and strategy in order to win. However, control is kept simple, and is easy to learn compared to other track and field games (though some may have trouble with the pole vault). Aiding Decathlete's strong replayability are several extras such as arcade mode, practice mode, and record keeping.

Decathlete is a very fun 2 player game and I reccomend it to anyone interested in sports games.
