Dynamite Deka
General Info: For those who have seen it in the arcade, it is an exact translation. For those of you who havn't, the game is a standard side-scrolling beat 'em up in the same vein as Streets of Rage/Final Fight. But the game does not scroll, and the stages is designed like a 2-d fighter; the screen ends (gets stuck). Here, you take on goons and take them on with a multitude of moves and weopons. The mission is to save the president's daughter from these goons in a highrise. Graphics: Since this game came off the STV- board (Saturns arcade equivalent), the port is exact. The characters are a bit blocky, and the textures are kind of pixelly. But what do you expect with as many as 7 characters running around the screen at once. Remember also that everything is polygons. The backgrounds, fire trucks, weopons, and characters is polygons. Grade: C+ Sound: Music- average, Sound Effects- good. Voices sound great during the cut-in sequences after a stage is cleared ޭevolving the story. These sequences are also done in real time. Grade: B- Gameplay: I prefer Streets of Rage better, just because you can scroll along a path. But Dynamite Deka is almost as fun. You can choose from VF combos to perform, and there is a ton of them, and they are relatively easy to perform. You can do HOLDING combos, or straight up combos. You can perform Wolfs Giant swing, suplex, piledrivers, dragon puches, PPPK combos, and many, many more. There are also a ton of weopons to pick up ranging from missle launchers to guns to spray cans with lighters. Some of the weaopons you don't have to shoot, but you can swing it around too! You can also pack your pistol (this only) when you pick up another weopon, or when you pick up another pistol, you get extra clips. In between stages, your character(s) run around the buildin searching for the president's daughter. During this running, you run into goons and the screen flashes "press punch" or "press kick" ޭor "press jump". You have to be quick to press these buttons and you have to press the right one or you will have to fight the baddies or get hit by incoming projectiles. This really tests your reaction and accuracy and is a nice change of pace from all the button pressing. Also included in the game is an ancient game made by Sega at about 1984. It's a submarine game where you're the aircraft carrier dropping mines to hit the subs. The higher your score, the more continues you will have in Dynamite Deka. You can play the game as many times as you want to pile up all those extras continues. You will need them, because the game is pretty difficult, although it does get easier with time. Grade: A- Overall: I put more emphasis on gameplay, and replay value. You can't really get the replay value of head-to-head games. OVERALL GRADE: B- Notes: There is a stage where a character is using the upright "pisser" taking a leak. Will this be edited out of the US version? Time will tell.
