EVE: Burst Error

Review by Daniel Alexander

Basic story, Private eye Kojiro and government agent Marina were doing their job until they bump into some kind of conspiracy.

This game is also a PC game by C'sware. This game is strictly adventure game, not an RPG that I once thought. so telling you the story would ruin the game. But I will tell U the basic mechanic of the game. By the way the game has 18+ on it. So it is for mature audience. Although I will not describe anything, but just to let you know

It's a text base adventure game, with a lot of pretty picture and pretty female character. The game also feature full speech. In fact most of the disc space is speech. The speech are very well done. Since U spent 80-90% of this game talking to other character there must be around 1-2hour worth of digitized speech in this game. Any action that is not conversation will have short movie to describe the action. The graphic though not much animated (mostly stilt pictures) are very beautifully drawn.

Music are also well done, the music will change depending where you are and what you have discovered.

Gameplay basically you go around snooping looking for clue. This game is linear, so you have to do something(like meeting or bumping into other character) to develop the plot and further your adventure. The menu command is very basic, like observe, talk, go, etc. For example if you choose talk and there are several characters on the screen, the menu will let you choose which character you want to converse with. Gameplay wise this game might not very appealing to most people. Like I said before this game is for mature audience, who prefer strong storyline than gameplay.

Like any adventure game, when you get stuck in the game it can get very frustrated, and the game leave you to wonder around which can get repetitive and boring. But once you discover something the reward is yours.

Language, if U can't read Japanese than this game will probably not for U unless you're an anime fan that must have all the anime game. If U can understand Japanese than this game can be enjoyable.

This game come in 4 disc. One is the making of EVE which contain some movie and all the art work, movie, and music. But U have to complete the game first in order to access this. When U start the game U can choose to be Kojiro or Marina. To really understand the story U really have to play them both at the same time to understand what's going on. They eventually will get together. So Kojiro alone take one disc, Marina another, and another one for when they get together.

Marina Hojou, is really a fun female character. For example when U take observe the sky outside her apartment( Japanese call an apartment a mansion, which got me confuse for a while until I remember about it )She will yell out UFO, then describe about UFO sighting and tell you there are no UFO in the sky. Kojiro are totally the opposite I reckon. But U really have to judge it yourself. The character in this game are really unique of each other.

I don't know how long the game is. I am still stuck on Kojiro disc and Marina disc, I've not gone to the third disc. When I start playing it I thought this game going to be straight forward and boy was I wrong. It can get very difficult at time. If anyone have this game and would like to share some info, please email me. my email: kwan@iap.net.au
