F1 ChallengeReview by: Ulysses Ang Graphics 8.5/10 Being an avid Formula One fan, it's hard to notice that this game produces astonishing results. The cars from all twelve teams seem to be right, including helmet color, sponsors and such. Although this game is a little pixelated compared to Sega Rally, F1 Challenge or F1 Live Information as it is known in Japan, is still a pretty good game. Pop-up is pretty noticable and the graphics are kinda rough in some way. There are also 2 views to choose from: cockpit and rear. Playability 8.0/10 This game works best with the analog steering control. Car control is still okay. In F1 Challenge, there are four cars to choose from and believe me, Sega made it a point to change handling characteristics, sound and all for all five cars. There is the Williams-Renault, Ferrari, McLaren-Mercedes, Tyrrell-Yamaha and the Benetton-Renault. Sound 7.5/10 Having F1 Live Information (I don't know if this is true with F1 Challenge), there are these commentators which would be with you until you finish the race. They would give comments about your team, your position and performance. BGM is minimal and is only present in the main window. The game itself has no BGM, only the three commentators. Sega went as far as to hire professional Japanese F1 commentators to do the voicing, which makes this game a little realistic. Hardness 6.5/10 Putting this game into easy mode makes the cars do an auto-brake. It's only a matter of placing the car in the right spot. However, putting the game into hard mode makes it a challenging game. Lastability 6.5/10 Since this is a one-player racing game, it isn't much to play with over and over again. With only six courses and five cars, this game is fun but not fun if you owned it for say the last six months or something. Overall Rating: 7.5/10
Bottom Line: This game is good...but it certainly needs improvement. This
is one of the view first game Sega used the Cinepak technology with.
Perhaps, this game served only as a testing ground or something.
