Fighting VipersReview by: MrNiceGuy With the release of Fighting Vipers, Sega has once again reaffirmed its dominance in the fighting game market. Vipers has its flaws but still shines brightly as one of the best fighters on the market today. FV's graphics are some of the best ever. While not running in high resolution like Virtua Fighter 2, you probably won't care. AM2 has managed to retain the walls and armor stripping effects that make FV such a treat to behold. There is some polygon breakup, and a little slowdown in some parts, but I have yet to play a home 3-D fighter without these problems. Vipers is pretty, no doubt, but it truly shine in the play department. The core of FV seems to be based on the 'big hit'. Every contender can crank out some awesomely powerful moves that can send an opponent flying across the ring or flying high in the air. Massive combos and be accomplished by air juggling or pinning someone against a wall. The walls are another intricate part of play mechanics. They can prevent ring outs, but can also cause a quick death from the hands of a skilled opponent. Each contender is clad in battle armor. Certain moves can damage armor, eventually breaking it off. The less armor a player has, the more damage they suffer. This adds an entirely new dimension that can only be appreciated by playing the game. Characters are very balanced, albeit a bit fruity looking. They include a skateboard punk, a rollerblading chick, a heavy-metal guitar player, and a few more wacked-out freaks. While characters are varied, it is very easy to learn any of them. Play is quite intuitive, not requiring an absurd amount of practice to become deadly. I've had Fighting Vipers for a few weeks now. There is plenty of depth, but most players experience with fighting games will breeze through it. Luckily the difficulty can be bumped up to compensate. Regardless of what some may say, FV is not as satisfying as VF2. Nevertheless, any gamer will be very happy with FV, and I absolutely recommend it. Graphics: 8.5 Play Mechanics: 9 Music: 8 Replay Value: 9 Fun: 9 Overall: 8.7 <---- very high on my scale!!!
