Fighting Vipers

Review by: S. Vijayasundaram

Graphics 2.5
These are some really ugly graphics. The developers claim that this game is in mid resolution, but you couldn't tell by looking at it. But then again, Sanman's stage(One out of three stages that actually uses the lighting this game was touted for) looks decent and if I was going to rate the graphics on that level I'd give it a 6.5(That's how big a difference the lighting makes). The game also slows down every once in a while, but it's not a big deal. All the developers had to do was take the Virtua Fighter engine, keep the simplified Gouraud(did I spell that right) shaded characters, forget about the lighting, and slow the frame rate down to around a smooth 40 frames per second and this game would look incredible. In this games defense, there are some even uglier games on this system, such as VF1,VF remix, the original Daytona, etc. But most of these games were first generation games, and Fighting Vipers should look a lot better than it does.

Sound 7.25
There's not much to elaborate on here.

Difficulty 1.5
That's the major problem with this game. When you get this game, set it to very hard, pick an easy to learn character like Picky, beat the game in about 25 minutes and go through the game about five more times. After that, you'll be able to pick any character in this game and be able to go through it in 15 minutes without even learning their moves. The learning curve might be greater if you're not familiar with Virtua Fighter 2. But, I'm sure it wouldn't be so great that someone would actually struggle with this game.

Depth???
To tell you the truth, I don't have any idea about how deep this game is. It seems to be fairly deep and it isn't Virtua Fighter with less depth and walls like I used to think. But, to tell you the truth, I wouldn't know. I've only played this game in two player mode against 3 people and I won easily since not that many people own this game(or a Saturn) and It was very unpopular in the arcades. I only saw this game once in the arcades, and that was on my vacation to England. I don't even think this game was ever even released in America.

Balance ???
This game seems to be very well balanced, but that might just be because of the easy AI.

Overall Score
If you don't know anyone that's good at this game, don't even think of getting this game. I'd give it an overall Score of three.

Even though I can't say this from experience, this seems to be the ultimate two player fighter. It's fairly easy to learn(but not as easy as the simple AI would lead you to think) and a blast to play. This game also is better at the adrenaline factor than any other fighting game(or any game for that matter) I can think of. I'd give this game an 8.25.

I should also say that Fighters Megamix is out so there may not be any reason to get this game. I wouldn't know since I don't own that game.
