Fighting Vipers (Import)
Review by: Tham Chern Yih
Not everyone liked Virtua Fighter 2. The game had the deepest gameplay in
any game but a lot of people could not get the hang of the game. Personally
I found the depth the best thing about the game and I am still learning so
much about it. Fighting Vipers however, is a more simplified version of
Virtua Fighter. In fact, it plays a lot like Tekken.
The moves are a lot easier to do and are more spectecular. Everyone should
have no problem getting into the game. However, it does not take long to
master a character and there are no hard moves to learn like the SPOD. This
is where all the extra stuff like the custom combos(my favourite thing about
the game) and armour comes in. The addition of Pepsiman, BM, Kumachan and
the new Honey outfits are a definite plus. With all these new stuff, the
game will hold your interest for a long time.
GRAPHICS 9/10
A lot of people complained that Sega should have taken away the gourad
shading and light sourcing and made the game in high resolution. I strongly
dissagree. After all the resolution is between VF Remix and VF2 and the
gourad shading and light sourcing more than make up for that. The walls
dissappear at odd times but you hardly notice it and this does not affect
the game.
SOUND 9/10
The one thing lacking in VF2 was the lack of voices with the occasional
grunts and yells. In Fighting Vipers there are more speeched and realistic
sound effects. Most of all, the music rocks! The Pepsiman theme is way cool!
GAMEPLAY 9/10
The game is very easy to learn and there are a lot of stuff and strategies
to master. Although not as deep as VF2, this game has much to offer. My only
complaint is that there are no reversals and Pepsiman is too powerful.
OVERALL 9/10
If you have a choice between VF2 and this, which one to get? Get both of
course! Put Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 2 together and your have VF3
(sort of). The best way to label this game is 'The Tekken of Saturn'. If you
own a saturn and is a fighting game fan, you'll be a fool to pass this up.
Evern if you don't like fighting games, at least try the game!
