Grid Runner

Review by: Adam Parker

Now this is the way next generation games should be. Grid Runner is incredible fun, incredible 2-d fun. I say 2-d, because I'm tired of 3-d games already, there is always something wrong with each one. 2-d will never die, it will only grow, and Grid Runner is a perfect example. Whoever takes my side in this familiar debate between 2-d and 3-d will instantly love Grid Runner. It reminds me of Trampoline Terror for the Genesis, with more involved gameplay and 'realistic' environments! For example, on the ice level, there's a huge square which is inversed rather than flat, making you slide all over the place. I thought Trampoline Terror was easily the best puzzle game on the Genesis, and Grid Runner is that for the Saturn. The graphics are absolutely amazing, especially in the bonus rounds. The music is perfect, I've been waiting for superior techno music on the Saturn and now I have it, and one of the tracks is trance/ambient, I couldn't believe it!! The two player split screen mode is the best for an action or puzzle game since sonic 2 by way far (my opinion of course). The sound effects are also very impressive, they're so clear with no cheesy static which by the way YOU and I are all sick of hearing in video games. Do Virgin a favor and buy this game, yet another underrated game for the Saturn as are all the best ones.
