Last Gladiators Digital Pinball

Review by: Colin Lebens

Well, i bought this game cause i found read Dark Falcon's review, and saw it at the mall for real cheap (it can be found just about anywhere for under $20 now). I have to say it was about the best $15 I've ever spent. Anyway, here's my review:

Graphics: 9/10

Man, the graphics in this game are great. The tables look exactly like real pinball tables! Plus, the graphics seem to be in a higher resolution than most other Saturn games. Also, unlike most pinball games I've played, the balls actually look real. Only problem with the graphics I've found is that the use of bright colors made it a bit tricky to distinguish ramps and bumpers from the table at first, but you'll learn the tables real well and it wont bother you at all.

Sound: 8/10

The sound in this game is also great. The only problem is that after a while it got a little annoying, and preferred to just listen to my own CD while i played. But still, the sound really goes with the game. Plus, there are many other sounds that just make it feel more real, like when you flip the flippers it actually does click.

Control: 9/10

Again, near perfect. It controls just like a real pinball machine. Only problem is that the nudge buttons are a bit confusing. Otherwise, its great.

Gameplay: 9.5/10

This is where this game really shines. Unlike a lot of other games in the genre, it just feels right. When i play it, i feel like I'm standing in front of a pinball machine in the arcade. First of all, there are 4 tables in it, all of them of top quality. They are called Gladiator, Knight of the Rose, Dragon Showdown, and Warlock. On each table there area about 10 rounds (all of which relating to the theme of the table), and there is one multiball round per table. This is also one of the most addictive games I've played since Puzzle Fighter or Baku Baku. I find myself sitting down to play one game, and playing it for an hour straight. Only VERY minor thing I've noticed is that on the Warlock table, when you do multiball, sometimes all the balls that come out go straight out of play. But this doesn't matter that much.

Overall: 9.5/10

I would tell anyone to buy this game. It is only $15, and i find myself playing it more than many of my newer games (even Shining). If your ever at the mall, or if your buying another game, do yourself a favor and go pick it up. Unless you absolutely can't stand pinball, you will not be disappointed. Its just like having 4 pinball machines right in your house, except it costs a hell of a lot less
