FIGHTERS MEGAMiX Review by: Andre Liem The game combines Virtua Fighter 2, a bit of Virtua Fighter 1, the new moves from VF3 and the characters from FV (not to mention the engine itself). The game at first seems to be a VF fan's heaven, every character in a AM2's 3-D fighter games plus more. So where's the catch? The catch comes in with the looks. The pixel count has been reduced drastically, and inspite of this there is some obvious slow down in the game on certain stages. Secondly I'm not sure why AM2 decided to do this with the music, but instead of having the music flowing through out all the rounds it stops after each round. Imagine the pain to the ears after playing FM so much you can pass each round in 30 seconds. I found this to be very annoying. The music and graphic problem can be put aside and FM could of been called a great fighter if the most important thing had been saved. The gameplay seemed to be lacking with this title. On medium the game was the easiest and fastest game to pass I've ever played. On hard FM becomes challenging, but not the same way VF2 was challenging. Never is the guard button required, and hardly ever does the opponent seem to show signs of AI. By tapping kick and punch several times, or by cornering the opponent in the corner on cage fights the game was passable in less than 7 mins. Comparison to VF2: Virtua Fighter 2 is a superior game to Fighter's Megamix in many ways. For one VF2 looks and plays better than FM. The music flows, and combos are harder but more rewarding to do. The computer learns with time, and you'll never see a 2-D wall disappearing in a cage fight since there is no cage arena. Having one path to choose made the game better, because it took longer, and the player gets a sense of hierarchy with the characters and the game. i.e. Akira is the last opponent for a reason. (He rocks) Comparing a game may be the wrong thing to do, but obviously AM2 knew that the comparison of VF2, FV, to FM was inevitable. So with all of these flaws in the game, I can't see how AM2 could be proud of this title. Even though it's fun at first, the only really new and good thing about this title are the new VF3 moves. This was not enough for me to buy this title, but renting was adequate. So here are my harsh reviews of the game :)
Graphics 7/10
