NiGHTS
Ok. After all the fuss I might as well right the review for this game to stop people e-mailing me to say "You aren't allowed to say that about NiGHTS". Sorry people you can like it or lump it. Now Nights is initially a great game but certain flaws drag it down quite severely in my books. Graphically, Nights is a dream. Colors, characters, landscapes.. they all look great, however in some spots there is slowdown, but not much, I just think of it as slow-motion so you can actually take in and appreciate the view. Also there is some landscape clipping which I guess is unavoidable and also you can see the map trying to redraw at times. I don't know if anyone noticed it, but I did. Sound wise, the game is great also. I like the idea of the music changing the more you play it. The boss music however steals the show. You really need your Saturn hooked up to your stereo for this as it's filth! Especially Puffy and Gulpo's music. Sonic Team did a good job on this area of Nights and it's a credit to them. The Control for nights is excellent. Especially with the Analog controller. Nights is easy to control and the kids Elliott and Claris are as well. Now, Funfactor is where this game faulters, BIG TIME. Now I know some may disagree but I have to say it. Nights is fun at first. I loved this game when I got it. It really is a treat to play but I found that after a while it got too repetitive. Sure you can fly around, and around, and around for a bit but soon it becomes old hap. The Bosses are great, but they were to easy to beat and I thought you didn't really fight them enough to feel satisfied. I know the idea is to kill them quickly, but for people like me who try to enjoy the moment, well the moment went too quick I thought. I kid you not, at first This game was a thrill, but now a couple of months on, well I feel that my time is better used playing something else. LAstability wise, this game really does hit the deck, hard. Sonic Team are famous for making games that are piss easy and I'm afraid that they've kept the tradition going. This game took me less than 8 hours to beat. Now during these eight hours, which were broken up into 3 days, I had work and other commitments and really, my aim was not to beat it. Yet I did. Now that may sound weird, but it's true, even when not trying to complete Nights, you do because it is such a tiny game and gives no real challenge. After completing it, I was shocked... WAS THAT IT?!?! Well I'm afraid it was. Sure, I played it again, and again and again but nothing changed. I felt that beating the game so quickly and so easily really killed this potentially incredible game. But wait! I hear some people cry! The versus mode feature! The versus mode is sub-sonic 2. It was a great idea that failed because it is too hard to win in it as you cant tell what your're doing and finding the opponent is just stupid. I think that a NetLink feature would have been good for it though, but unfortunately no plans were made for it, which was a shame. No one's fault, just bad timing. The motivation to perfect this game wasn't really there for me. I knew I could thrash it to perfection, but what would I get out of it? Satisfaction? no. The ability to brag about what huge scores I can get, that's what, and really that isn't worth it. Nights while being graphically and sonically great, is weighed heavily down by its lack of lastabilty. Perhaps levels where just Elliott and Claris have to run around could have lengthened this game?
Graphics: 94% OVERALL: 74% (not an average)
Get it if you want a quick thrill, if you are looking for hard
challenging fun, look somewhere else, rent it though, I think everyone
should at least have a go at it.
