Sega Ages Outrun (Import)Review by: Lagi Outrun, released in the arcade way back when, has finally arrived at a home console flawlessly. As part of Sega's ages series, Outrun has been ported to the Saturn, with all the class of the original arcade classic. Outrun's innovation's revolutionized the driving game genre 10 years ago, and while thousands of outrun clones have come and gone, the original is still the best. The Saturn conversion is done perfectly, and adds a few new option to the mix. Graphics: Its amazing that 10 year old arcade game, still looks good in the era of 3-d polygons and what not. The red testarosa looks as good as it ever did, and moves smoothly threw the detailed backgrounds. Even younger gamers can appreciate the graphics, believe this isn't the nostalgia talking Outrun, looks good, and graphics wise, that's all you need to know. Sound: The engine sounds of yesteryear, still sound good today. You can feel the engine roaring, and that cool sound cars make when they pass each other. Crashing and bumping into other cars feels solid, and is exactly what you would expect. The music does show its age, its lacking, and not even the arranged tracks can save it. Yet all is not lost in the music department. You see outrun loads the whole game onto the saturns ram when you first turn it on, and then it loads no more. This allows gamers who have disabled the open door sensor on their saturn's to swap the outrun disk(in the music select screen) with a normal audio disk. Driving down the strip listening to you're favorite tunes, gaming doesn't get any better than this. Gameplay: Has Sega's AM division's ever delivered a game with out gameplay? Hell no(for the exception of Afterburner, but that's just me). Outrun, is the first saturn racer to fully use the analog stick, and it shows. Steering is controlled by the analog joystick, and braking, and acceleration are fully analog by the use of the Left and right triggers! Extras/Replay Value: You'll be playing Outrun for a while, there is multiple paths when racing, and lots of stuff to see. The game on normal difficulty is harder than you may think, and of course you'll want to keep playing to better you're scores. Sega included some Saturn extras but nothing too extraordinary. You have the option of oversees and domestic mode, and those arranged soundtracks, as well as the difficulty control. Overall: Outrun is as good as ever, and well worth picking up, if you're feeling nostalgic, or just looking for a good driving game. Perfect Outrun at home, and it only took 10 years!
