Sega Ages
Sega Ages is the compilation by Working Designs of the arcade versions of After Burner II, Outrun and Space Harrier. I will give a quick review here: Graphics: Compared to today titles, these games look a bit old, except for Outrun which still look better than Cruisin' USA for the N64. On a modern scale all games must be rated at 8. Compared to the original arcades, they are a 10 (or even a 11 because of the additional stuff). This is the first arcade experience I've had ever on a home console. Not even Virtua Fighter 2 came close to bring home the arcade feel. Sound: This is the golden part of this title. The music has been redone by the same people who did the first one and is simply the best music tracks you'll find on Saturn. Play them on you CD player and you'll notice how well instrumented and un-computerized they sound. They vary from Hard Rock to Soft Jazz, and definitively they don't sound as dull as modern soundtracks. Compared to modern standards: 9.9. Compared to the arcade: 11. Gameplay: AH! These days were gameplay was king! These games are gems of the action genre. You'll fire more rounds than in Quake and Doom combined! All Sega peripherals are supported, from the standard pad, to the Mission Stick, Analog Pad and Arcade Racer. I only tested it with the digital and analog pads. Control is good, but it should have been tweaked a little more for the analog pad. Compared to modern standards: 9, compared to the arcade: 8. Replay value: Well, all games are from 1986 and still are giving profit so they have a ten year replay value already proved! These games are simple, but that kind of easy play makes you wanna play it day and night. Compared to modern standards: 7. Compared to the arcade: 10. So overall value for this title:
Compared to modern standards: 8.5
In short words: If you don't buy this one you don't deserve being called a
gamer not owning a Saturn.
