Steep Slope Sliders
Steep Slope Sliders is the latest (OK, only) snowboarding game for Saturn. Not being a big sports fan, I was quite shocked at how good this game is. Now for the rating: Graphics: A The graphics are better than any other snowboarding game I have seen. Crisp snow banks, trackside buildings, and other details. The boarders are nicely textured and animate very well (unlike Coolboarders 2 with its robot-like movement). The frame rate seems pretty high too. My only problem with the graphics is the blocky, 2-D trees. Music: B Hmm… the music is kinda odd. Somewhat techno-like, and trippy too. There are some good songs like "high" and "the phantom voltage", but then there's the sucky "kiss" and "hold me". Ugh! You can also go in to the option menu and listen to your favorite tracks with onscreen "Hypnotainment™". Sound FX: B- Uh… not much to say about the SFX. Just some basic sounds like your board zipping along the snow. I would have liked some more painful SFX when you fall, though. Gameplay: A+ Ah yes. This is where it gets good. This game plays like a dream. You can do tons of awesome tricks, or just get some speed and fly down the hill. From the first time I played I was pulling all kinds of stuff like 1260" spins, tons of grabs, even rail slides. The courses are just packed with cool stuff. It's extremely fun to jump over a moving train, do a rail slide on a play ground swing-set, then do a jump off a slide, do a backflip off a car's roof, etc. I think you get the point. =) Replay: A+ This game has alot of replay. With 15 (some hidden) boarders, 7 normal courses, 3 hidden courses, loads of tricks, a hidden mini game called "Steep Slope Shooters" (LOL! It looks like a lost Atari game). A replay mode where you can save you're best (or worst) runs and edit, then play them back. Overall: A+ This is a game every Saturn owner should add to his collection. It's one of the best games I have played in a long time.
