Sega Touring Car Championship
This game was not I expected it to be. The graphics in Daytona USA was okay, Rally was leagues better, so Touring Car was supposed to be way better, right? Totally wrong. In terms of gameplay I like Cruisn' USA for the N64 better. The good parts? Its options. This game lets you tune your car in a whole lot of different ways such as back wheel alignment and tight or loose control. In the arcades this game was the toughest game I ever played and just as tough. This game little or no distrubtion like Last Bronx. GRAPHICS: The graphics are totally disappointing. Lets start with the 2-player mode. First off playing in this mode is almost as dangerous as Sonic R's. You can barely see the horizon, you can't see any of the turns, when you hit any of the walls they pop-up, and your car is always shifting between 30 and 20 frames per second. The textures are very muddy and dirty looking unlike the beautiful colors in Sega Rally. The 1-player mode is just as bad. The roads are square and move jerky as you speed along. Everything is reduced to a blur when your playing and your car is still shifting between 20 and 30 frames per second. Also, unlike in Rally where the cpu cars were one solid color the cpu cars are just as detailed as yours and you get a rolling start in Sega Touring Car Championship like you got in Daytona USA. SOUND/MUSIC: This game has the best engine sounds I've ever heard. Now the music
is horrible! The music fashions it self after Sonic R with lyrics, but they
are not super happy
GAMEPLAY/CONTROL:
I can say this is the toughest racing game I've ever played. This
game handles like a dream with analog control, but is a nightmare with a
digital pad. With analog it controls perfectly because you have complete
control over your car. With the d-pad you hittin almost every spot on the
track. Even with light button taps you go in a full 360 degrees then you're
driving in reverse. Pass without the analog. Now with that said the best
thing about STCC? It incredible sensation of speed! When you're going at
200 MPH you're going at 200 MPH! Even with its incredible sensation of
speed this game's control is still to bad to let you enjoy it.
REPLAY:
Let's see, 5 tracks, horrible graphics, gobal net tracks, horrible
control, horrendous 2-player mode, and awful music. I don't see how someone
could enjoy this game for too long. 5 tracks? Simply pathetic. Try
Nascar'98 before this or even Sega Rally.
RECOMMADATION:
Sega Rally is still king on the Sega Saturn. This is definitely not
up to usual Sega quality.
