Virtua Fighter 2

Review by Dave Z.

WOW!!!! Higher than 640X480 resolution, running at a mind boggling 60 fps = easily the most impressive home console game of all time. The character movement is FREAKING AMAZING, every bit as impressive as found in the high-end model 2 arcade game. This easily surpasses anything found on the Saturn and Playstation, in fact, with the exception of the Arcade VF2, it surpasses everything found in the arcades. It is easily more impressive than Namco's latest arcade game Tekken 2. The only major difference from the Saturn version and the arcade version is the backgrounds. The backgrounds are done in parallax and not true 3-D like the arcade version and the PS Toshinden. With that said,  I still find the backgrounds to be far superior to Toshinden's backgrounds. There is just so much more to them, they are extremely detailed and are still extremely beautiful to look at. Another problem, albeit small, is the voices, which are a bit muffled, but in no way hurt the game. In fact if you play it through a good stereo system, you'll barely notice it. And the music is crystal clear, and offers you an option of the original arcade music or a remixed version (I prefer the remixed, but both are excellent). The gameplay found in VF2 is miles beyond what is found in the original VF. The characters respond much better to your button presses and the action is over twice as intense. The jumps are still "floaty", but much improved. This game offers a ton of replay value considering it could take years to master each and every character, and is quite frankly, the best fighting game of all time. Fact - the Saturn CAN do anything the Playstation can do, may be even better.

Overall: 9/10
